My friend on Facebook recently started putting her blessings of the day as her statuses, which obviously got me to thinking about a few things. Some of the blessings were big, while some of others were small. Within a matter of weeks, I started to notice the blessings just kept on coming for her. I couldn’t help but to think: “God has been really good to her.”

If you have yet to check out BET’s new show, then you’re missing out. “Reed Between The Lines” is BET’s new family sitcom starring Tracee Ellis Ross as Dr. Carla Reed and Malcolm-Jamal Warner as Dr. Alex Reed. The show gives viewers a look at a blended family, following the day-to-day lives of Carla, Alex and their three kids: Kaci and Keenan from Carla’s previous marriage, and the couple’s youngest child, Alexis.

Chicago Fashion Focus is Chicago’s very own fashion week celebrating Chicago’s thriving fashion industry. Chicago Fashion Focus started Monday, October 17, and will continue until Sunday, October 23. During this week, there are so many shows and events you can check out, but there are three shows that I think are a must see during fashion focus.

The Designers of the Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI) presented by Macy’s

Featuring new and emerging Chicago designers, the Chicago Fashion Incubator show will be on October 18, at 7:30 pm in Millennium Park. Check out a preview of the current designers in residence and some alumni’s Spring 2012 collection. The designers in residence showing will be: Taneasha Prunty, Crystal B. Simms, Kahindo Mateene, Concetta Cipriano, Shavonne Dorsey and Eric Kipp. The alumni that will be showing are: Miriam Cecilia Carlson, Leah Fagan, Christina Fan, Catherine Furio, Anna Hovet, Stephanie Kuhr, Agga B. Raya, Jonnie Rettele, Cynthia Ryba, Donaldo Smith and Lidia Wachowska. With such a talented lineup this is definitely a show to check out. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $80 for VIP tickets.

Dress Code 2011

Dress Code is a fashion show featuring student designers from Chicago fashion design schools: Columbia College Chicago, The Illinois Institue of Art – Chicago, International Academy of Design and Technology – Chicago, and School of The Art Institute of Chicago. The show will be held October 19, at 7 pm at the Chicago History Museum. This year the students will be taking part in the “FashioNext: The Charles James Project” where they will have to create an accessory or garment inspired by the design, pattern work or construction details from a Charles James design. This show, featuring rising talent in the fashion world, is one you don’t want to miss! Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for general admission.


StyleChicago.com’s Art of Fashion 2011

The Art of Fashion will be the last headlining show of Fashion Focus taking place on Friday, October 21, at 7:30 pm in Millennium Park. I believe they saved the best show for last! The Art of Fashion will feature the Spring 2012 collection of Chicago designers: Nade Baer, Nora del Busto, Lara Miller, Borris Powell, Eva Pazola, RÜCH, Squasht by Les, Shernett Swaby, Sylwia Wilczynska and Zamrie. Tickets for are $35 for general admission and $95 for VIP tickets.

Kristi Dawson: An Advocate for Breast Cancer

“No other women will go through this,” was the promise Kristi Dawson made to her late grandmother who had breast cancer and did not have the adequate amount of health coverage needed to help her. Since she made that promise, Dawson, a Chicago native, has been working hard to fulfill it through her organization Love Yourself First, Inc., and the annual “Pink Party” fundraiser she hosts in support of breast cancer awareness.

Crystal Ermon Shows Confidence is Beauty

Crystal Ermon started CS Ermon Management in 2009 because of her love for working with people and helping them. Her start in public relations began with Chicago’s WNBA team, the Chicago Sky, booking celebrities and other talent to come to the events. She also produced a fashion show with a foundation, which showcased her talents in another industry. Crystal says her company has grown since the beginning, with the addition of working for and alongside a variety of talent in the fashion and entertainment industry.
