For starters, being signed to Roc Nation may have something to do with all the noise he’s making, but his album speaks for itself.
“Mr. Nice Watch” features Jay-Z, but even without Jay’s contribution, the track has the same, if not more, appeal. On the surface, it may appear similar to other tracks where bragging about money, clothes and living the good life is the norm. However, for some reason, this one has a totally different feel from the 1,000,000 other songs that say just about the same thing.
“God’s Gift” also goes just as hard without a feature, but it still has that unique beat that takes the track to the next level.
Going from one extreme to another, the encouragement in “Cheer Up” seems like it comes straight out of left field considering the remaining tracks. The first verse hits on many issues young women may be able to identify with, while the second verse provides a little insight into who J. Cole was before he was introduced to the world.
Finally, the album wouldn’t have been the same without tracks like “Dollar and a Dream III,” “Never Told” and “Daddy’s Little Girl.” All three have totally different messages and three different vibes, which allows listeners to see the rapper’s range.
Overall, Cole World tells an elaborate story, while giving us a little bit of J. Cole with each tale. Whether fact or fiction –– everyone loves a great story. Now, when you throw in some crazy beats and dope “features,” that’s just the icing on the cake.
