Gloss Magazine Online Media Kit

Written by Administrator

Executive Summary: The staff at Glossmagazineonline strives to create a publication that embraces and explores pop culture as it is related to young, trendsetting, African American women. The publication is an interactive tool that connects woman of color and allows expression, creativity and a voice on issues that this woman cares about in an online environment that fosters this spirit.

Company Summary: Glossmagazineonline publishes news that African American women, age 18-34, cares about. The publication intends to be THE online destination for news that matters to this diverse group of women. Whether you're interested in what's going on in Hollywood or Washington, want to know the latest treatments being considered for diabetes, or if you're searching for a deal on a little black dress, Glossmagazineonline wants you to come to us FIRST! We want to make sure that the concerns of African American women that are all but ignored in other publications are answered in our virtual pages. What sets us apart from other similar publications is its cutting edge approach to pop-culture coverage. The magazine is interactive. We want you to publish and respond to news on the site. The GLOSS woman is educated and getting her life together. Whether she is enrolled in college or just getting her feet wet in her chosen career field, the GLOSS woman is in need of news that is for HER – coverage of things that are a part of HER everyday world.

Services/Products: The product is quite simply the online magazine. The service that Glossmagazineonline provides lies in its content. The magazine is for and by women of African American decent who do not always see positive images of themselves in the media, or have access to publications that focus on their individual experiences and needs as women of color. Furthermore, the development of the content is crucial to what will sets Glossmagazineonline apart. Instead of telling this group of women what they want to see in a publication for them, we asks them first! Through two rounds of surveys directed at African American women in Chicago, New York and D.C., the content that fills our glossy pages was created. Furthermore, the staff that makes up Glossmagazineonline also consists of up-in-coming writers, photographers, poets, models and designers. The hands on research combined with a young staff that keeps things fresh and smart, not only puts a face on the magazine, but continues to create the product–a service that fills a need for honest content that young African American women want to read.

Market Analysis Summary: Glossmagazineonline marketing is directed towards these target segments:

Family!

How EXCITED am I about this issue??

Not only are we bringing you some top-notch interviews––Laz Alonso from Jumping the Broom and Breakout Kings talked to Managing Editor Frances Moffett about his career, what he's working on next, and his, um dating status; R&B sensation Ledisi gave us a little "Piece" of what she's up to with her new album; and Malik Yoba of New York Undercover fame gave us the 411 on his new Sy-Fy show, Alphas––but have you checked out our new site?

The staff at GMO is always working to bring you the latest on the up-and-coming artists, entrepreneurs, authors and more making their mark. However, we also want to bring you the news in a fresh, fun and interactive manner. I do hope this new site is a step in the right direction. Not only can you comment directly on the articles, but you can also see the authors and contact them directly, share us on Facebook and Twitter, email us to friends, view video and so much more. Let me know your thoughts, as we are always a work in progress!

You'll see all the articles from past issues throughout the categories and sections, not separated by issues like in the past. Of course, the most recent articles populate at the top of the categories so you'll have no problem finding stories from the past. This new feature will allow us to update YOUR online magazine more frequently, putting you in touch with the news you care about sooner rather than later.

Now back to the issue. Not only do we have more interviews with business owners, authors, television personalities (I know Chicago is dying to know who's taking Oprah's place—meet her here!) actresses, and more, but you will also notice that the Fashion & Beauty section is crazy this issue. We even dubbed July/August the “Fashion Issue,” as you'll meet models, designers and the people behind the scenes of a successful fashion show. The talented individuals featured here will be working with us in our upcoming Gloss:Applied fashion show (details to come).

Check out images from our Summer Model Photo Shoot and then meet the Glossy ladies individually in the profile piece in the Fashion & Beauty section. (Don't worry ladies; we are working on an all-male GMO shoot as we speak!) A special shout out to Marketing Manager Samantha Mitchell for pulling this shoot together and to the official GMO Photographer Billy Montgomery and his crew for the some amazing photos.

I could go on and on about this issue. I'm excited about the direction we are heading, and I only see great things ahead for the staff of GMO (who continues to amaze me with every issue), our affiliates, and you—the people who continue to check us out and support the vision of the magazine. My staff thanks you and we promise to continue to bring you the stories of the up-and-coming, by the up-and-coming––with a few superstars thrown in to catch your attention!

As always, if you are interested in joining the GMO family, or if you represent an artist – or are an artist that would like to be profiled in GMO – contact Managing Editor Frances Moffett at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If you are interested in sponsorship or advertising opportunities, contact Marketing Manager Samantha Mitchell at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Before I sign off, a BIG thank you to my Web Designer Rick Harrigan. I told him what I wanted to do, and he helped me bring that to light with the new site. I know I'm a little neurotic and crazy to work with so I thank you from the bottom of my glossy heart (too much? lol) for all your hard work on this.

We are getting there, WE are Almost there!
