On Saturday, June 1, the city of Chicago will host discussions on the current “State of Black Chicago” at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center at Chicago State University (CSU). Dialogue will take place with elected officials, entrepreneurs, clergy and other community leaders about the state of the community. Organized by the State of Black Chicago Congress (SBCC), the group looks to ignite a spark in the city about how to provide both proactive and positive solutions to issues that affect Chicago’s African-American community.
As a free event that is open to the public, the SBCC invites community members to participate and interact in focus groups with various community leaders as they converse about crime and violence, education access and resources, business development and opportunity, youth engagement and leadership development, joblessness, health and wellness, black media, new media and technology, politics and spirituality/religion/the Black Church in the 21st century.
