There were Bey stans that adored Beyonce’s Osman Studio black and white jumpsuit at the Grammys. Then there were people who expected her to come dazzling in a flowing gown and just didn’t like it. As with many celebs and designers alike, award shows are a way to preview their newness—hair styles to fashion trends for upcoming seasons. Beyonce did just that.

Though spring is the time to wear pastels—that’s so mundane. Get your wardrobe ready for spring 2013 by getting looks and colors that are HOT and on trend.

BOLD BLACK AND WHITE

We have Beyonce at the Grammy’s for starters. But, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors and Calvin Klein are a few designers who previewed the same color trend for their spring collections. It’s a simple dose of elegance. From fine lines to patterns, as long as you’re polished and in black and white head to toe, you’ve got the look.

STRIPES

The oft-recurring stripe is on trend for spring. From simple lines of black and white, pinstripe, navy and white, horizontal and vertical—stripe it is. It’s a trend that can be paired with simple pieces to create classic looks or one that can stand alone like wearing a striped maxi-dress.

FLUORESCENTS

Don’t be afraid of color. Bright colors are sometimes statement pieces on their own and can be give a rather drab and ordinary piece of clothing an edge. To put it simply, somethings just look better in color. Take for instance, this rich coral Emilio Pucci dress. The color adds sexiness and style to an ordinary dress.

BOLDER PRINTS

We’ve seen prints but the prints have gotten more elaborate for spring 2013. Designers have embraced retro from the 60s through the 80s making abstract prints, graphic prints out of landscapes, people and drawing inspiration from various cultures. Pairing prints with neutral accessories will play into this trend well.

DELICATE LEATHER

It seems as if Fifty Shades of Grey has found its way into the modern fashion world. From leather (and faux leather) peplums to dresses with random leather detail, S&M is a new inspiration. From the likes of Jason Wu, J. Mendel and Belstaff, delicate leather is to be embraced as a new accessory in fashion.

WHITE AND LACE

White, as well as ivories, is in. White to earthy ivory colors are alone feminine and with lace it’s ultimate sophistication and elegance. You can, but don’t worry about wearing a pop of color because white or ivory shoes or sandals is an acceptable addition. This trend will dominate this spring.

CHAMBRAY AND DENIM

The denim trend continues. With chambray, it’s lighter and able to mix well with other fabrics. It’s for more of an everyday look but when dressing down it’s an option that will also work with heels and a dress in some cases. Chambray and denim looks come in different forms: dresses, pants, jackets and more.

THE BLUES

Cobalt blue was really hot in winter but it segueing into spring. Lighter powder blues and even mint and sea foam greens where there’s a tinge of blue are hot colors for spring 2013 also. Not too bent on the term ‘blue is the new black’ but it’s a color you should have in your wardrobe for spring.
