Lobo’s first single, “Drama Queen,” had a huge response with her fans and in Chicago, branding her with the nickname Drama Queen.
Born in California but raised in Chicago, Demi Lobo is a junior at Columbia College Chicago, majoring in radio. Before attending Columbia, she went to Eastern Illinois for two years. She said she chose Columbia to be closer to music and radio.
“I started as a young woman at Eastern with poetry, setting myself up for writing,” Lobo said.
Before being a pop artist, Lobo was writing R&B music but then realized that R&B writing wasn’t fun, mostly because she loves all types of music. She said pop music and “Drama Queen” came in at the same time in her life.
“I liked the sound of music for ’Drama Queen’ and felt the rush of doing it,” Lobo said. “When I first started pop music, no one in Chicago was doing it.”
With only being out in the music scene for a short period of time, Lobo has been nominated for two awards: Best New Entertainer from the Chicago Music Awards (along with R&B singer Jeremih) and Best Female Artist of the Year from the Chicago Independent Awards. She said that she has performed on stage in 80 shows in front of more than 70,000 people and that she’s opened for popular artists such as R. Kelly, Gucci Mane and Day 26.
As a young woman and entertainer, Demi Lobo advises other people who are trying to make their dreams come to reality to never give up. She said she thought about why she is doing what she’s doing and realized that what she’s doing is what she wants.
