The cold weather didn’t stop music lovers from attending Frankie Parker’s album release party for her newest CD, Breezy. There was a full house Thursday at The Shrine, one of Chicago’s most popular nightlife spots.
Frankie posed for the camera with friends, family and fans during the South Loop’s red carpet pre-event. The atmosphere was filled with a laid-back, grown and sexy crowd who enjoyed refreshing cocktails as DJ Jay Imani set the tone.
Prior to the show, GlossMagazineOnline (GMO) caught up with the singer to talk about her new project.
GMO: How did you come up with the title Breezy?
Frankie: It was one of the songs on the album and the album is basically about trials, issues, relationships and just freeing yourself from drama.
GMO: What is your favorite song on the album?
Frankie: “Breezy” and “Diamond in the Rough,” which is about a woman who had everything but still turned to drugs.
GMO: What inspires or motivates you as an artist?
Frankie: Other artists, different ideas and concepts. The sound of old school music and life itself is an inspiration.
GMO: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would you choose?
Frankie: I would say Pharrell Williams; I love his style and Erykah Badu because she is the best motivator and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
It was finally show time, but before the artist hit the stage, the opening acts included Erin Sedalia and EM JAI. Both did an amazing job as they prepared the crowd for the final act. Energy traveled throughout the room as Frankie walked on the stage. The first song she introduced was “Diamond in the Rough,” followed by “Majestic Player,” which was a story about how her parents met.
As the Chicagoland artist presented a snippet of each song on the album, her soulful voice put you in the mind of a young Jill Scott or Lauryn Hill. Her lyrics and music related to real life situations. The last song she performed was “Breezy.” Attendees received a free copy of the CD. Everett Davis Jr., the mastermind behind the album cover, said the project took three weeks to complete. “Let It Go” and “Peace, Love and Wine” are definitely songs that you should keep on repeat.
