The Yes and No

This is the time of the year when people make promises and take oaths to eat healthy and be more proactive about maintaining their health. But most find it hard to eat right with life’s hectic schedules. Going to school, work, raising a family and all the other things going on in our daily lives can prohibit us from taking a step in the right direction when it comes to keeping a healthy lifestyle while being on-the-go.

Fast food restaurants and the typical gas station junk food are just examples of what we shouldn’t be eating regularly. Making the decision to eat healthy while traveling is a step that everyone should take for a better lifestyle. The hardest thing to do while commuting and being constantly on-the-go is to attempt to eat healthier, but with some tips and guidance, you can so do successfully.cb

As a commuter myself, I am faced with the everyday choices of what to eat. Being a college student on a time schedule, I sometimes find myself choosing between the greasy fast food cheeseburger or a quick bag of Doritos, making eating healthy on-the-go seem impossible. This can be a common dilemma for students and others who are on the move.

“I am always faced with the decision to eat out. With all these restaurants that serve unhealthy food, it makes it impossible to eat healthy on-the-go,” said Bria Cross, a freshmen at Columbia College Chicago.

According to thehealthyeatingguide.com, “Americans are now spending over $140 billion on fast food each year.” Fast food may seem like a good idea at the time, but later on it won’t be. People are unaware of the healthy tips that they should be following. According to HelpGuide.org, there are 10 tips for sticking to eating healthy. Some of the tips include eating in moderation; adding more protein, calcium and grains to your diet; and eating healthy fats. These tips can help with eating right on-the-go and setting up a healthy diet for yourself.

n Food is apart of our everyday lives. You shouldn’t be putting unhealthy food into your body. It is up to you to make better choices and eat healthier food while you are going to school, going to work or participating in any other activities.

“I know that I should be eating healthy while I am out, but it is harder then it looks. Constantly being out makes it hard to find healthy choices. pbI know they are out there but the unhealthy places are easier to find,” said Adilla Daoud, freshmen at Columbia College Chicago.

Don’t be discouraged, though, when youre on-the-go and can’t find a healthy restaurant. Places like Panera Bread, Noodles and Company, Corner Bakery and Chipotle were ranked as Americas top 10 healthiest fast food restaurants, according to health.com. With a variety of different foods to choose from, these restaurants will make it easier to eat better on-the-go.

Eating well on-the-go is tough. There are many things to worry about and that includes what to eat. If you ever find it hard to eat healthy on-the-go, you should consider packing healthy snacks to avoid eating out. You can save your money and eat healthier. If you don’t pack anything to eat, find a restaurant that serves healthier meals. Many restaurants offer healthy foods that don’t include the regular cheeseburger and fries. Opt for a low-fat salad or soup. If you are staying in a hotel, you can always pack some of your own food and keep it in the mini fridge. You will feel a lot better eating your own meals when you know what exactly is in it. If you’re a college student like me, do yourself a favor and cook a homemade healthy meal. You can save your money and have an excuse to call mom for some help. With the crazy things going on in life, these tips will help you have one less thing to worry about. Eating on-the-go can sometimes seem difficult, but thinking about your choices can make it all easy.
