When you see and hear the words, ‘ain’t that the truth?’ what comes to mind? Author, dancer and choreographer Darrin Dewitt Henson says the phrase resonates because it’s so much more than what is said and it rings out loud. Inspired by the possibility to be more than who he is as a man, with the intent to grow, the desire to cultivate connections with people and to help people gain access to their goals, the author composed Ain’t That the Truth, a compilation of thoughts and quotations that speak to the hearts of readers.

“I hope people take the opportunity to look inside of themselves, expand themselves, challenge themselves and welcome challenges into their lives,” Darrin comments. “Challenges mean you’re growing. Challenges are not problems. They help us grow, to become more patient, to be more passionate, more empathetic. We should always be evolving.”

A part of evolving includes not expecting more than what you’re willing to give. And to simply do just that…give without expecting anything in return.

“Don’t set yourself up for failure, set yourself up for success,” Darrin says.

The well-known choreographer and actor took a small opportunity from these roles to create a work that he says is a mirror for people that teaches them how to deal with fear, an environmental emotion that Darrin says is stored in our brains subconsciously.

“Ask yourself what you would do if you couldn’t fail,” he states. “Get rid of fear and you start to live. Ask what, when and why you want something. Then ask yourself what’s in your way of getting it.”

With limitless possibilities, Darrin continues to not just tap, but take major strides in the film industry as he continues to promote the film Black Coffee, of which he has a starring role. The actor says the film reached audiences all over the country and outside of the United States. He expands his film experience with roles behind the camera as well as a director and producer. Darrin also recently guest-starred in an episode of the BET hit drama, Being Mary Jane.

His book isn’t the only page-turner supporters can get their hands on. Darrin is featured in a 2014 calendar where the pictures are definitely worth more than a thousand words.

Darrin’s vibrant energy and charisma show that he’s doing everything but slowing down.

“Tie yourself to your end result and enjoy the ride,” he advises.
